That we watched alot of movies, clips, and interesting things!
I like the field trips they are very interesting and very informative
Dr.Mathys makes this course effective by having a hands on approach to teaching it. He's very interactive with his students and helps all along the way. The field trips allowed me to learn about various avian life in New Jersey and as a result I'll never see birds the same way again. Dr.Mathys is an exceptional professor and is what Rutgers University needs at the moment. The course and Dr.Mathys go hand in hand and I do not believe any other professor would impact its students the way Dr.Mathys has nor would they teach the course the same way.
I like how the professor really makes the material fun and interesting to learn. He makes you want to learn a lot more about birds!!
I loved the field trips and encouragement to participate. The knowledge and enthusiasm of Dr. Mathys and our T.A. Robbie demonstrated expert knowledge, professionalism and contagious enthusiasm towards this interest that seemed to turn those at first taking the subject for necessity to interested bird identifiers and involved learners during lectures.
the field trips when they are on nice days!
If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:
nothing really, he did well
I would not change a thing.
Perfect the way it is.
I might not have as many field trips.
make sure students understand distinct markings on specific birds in lab. Listen to bird calls, so we can identify them in the field.
Nothing, nothing at all.
nothing
In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:
umm, not sure yet..
I am interested in taking future ornithology classes because I have become very interested in the topic.
I'll never step outside and see birds the same way. Everywhere I walk I'll attempt to identify a bird. I have also been reading up more on avian life and have also discovered traditions worldwide, such as falconry as a result. Dr.Mathys has completely changed my interest in this field and wildlife in general.
I've learned more about birds, which is honestly not something many people know about.
I have been inspired to go look for birds and follow migrating species throughout New Jersey to gain an applied understanding of ecology, and to visit museums to understand their natural and evolutionary history.
I have a new appreciation for birds. I definitely developed an interest after taking this course based on the passion the professor has for them.
Other comments or suggestions::
I wish him the best in Ohio!
Keep Dr.Mathys at Rutgers University, it is really needed as he is not like any other professor. any professor who has an impact on students like he does would greatly improve academia at Rutgers University.
Keep being awesome Dr. Mathys
great course!
